Naturally Focused on Petals, Painting and Peace...

Ahhhh summer is on its way! I remember when I used to dread summer. No more! I can hardly wait to have lazy mornings and fun with the kids and not have to get them off to school. To get started I have been busy painting my porches and doors, breaking into gardening and attempting to enjoy the peace that comes with warm weather and sunny skies.
One of my favourite things to take pictures of is flowers. I could take hundreds of pictures of flowers and never get bored. For a whole $15 I was able to get a nice vase and some pretty flowers for the porches and decided to also give an old ugly piece of furniture a lift. I took a beautiful flower and added the punch of colour I needed and things grew from there.
Next step was painting a porch that hasn't seen paint since it was originally built. Yup, I obviously need a second coat but it already looks a hundred and ten percent better.
The next on the list after that is our back porch. Then more gardening. Last year's attempt wasn't nearly pretty enough so this year I'm going to take it a few steps further. Gardening is ironically enough, something that I'm having to grow into but I'm excited about it. Not a hyper excited, don't get me wrong. It's a happy, warm, lazy kind of excited. Being around what little nature I have in a city reminds me of home when I was little. Growing up in the north surrounded by nature and then moving to cities as an adult has made me crave that tiny bit of nature you find in a garden which is ironic because I'm not uber outdoorsy by any means. I love that.... and the next step after that.... BBQ's! Ohhh the pics of food!...I'm gonna loooove that!
I have to say I've been pleasantly interrupted by an event that has taken me away from my projects. A funny thing happened the other day when getting my kids off to school. A baby squirrel came racing to my sons feet to get away from a chasing cat. I'd never seen a baby squirrel before. That afternoon while with the kids on the way home from school we met up with it again and realized that its mother had been hit by a car and it's obviously looking for food. So off to the store we went and got some peanuts and of course have since discovered that the baby has a sibling so we've named them Baby and Squeaky. Baby has even come to sit on my foot. They are a little bit less stand off-ish than adult squirrels so I'm hoping for some great shots but its a start. I love it when life gives me a reason to keep updating and I love little gifts from God like this, it makes picture taking so much more worth it when you can see those gifts.
